Feb 20 town-hall meeting, summary
Thank you all who attended the town hall meeting. Except that neither Colorado College nor KRCC were in attendance, the forum was a great success. 88 community members came to speak their mind. The expert panel was almost superfluous to the later discussion because there appeared to have been so many pent-up ideas which people came to express.

I do the morning freeform show on KRCC and I attended the Townhall Forum on Feb.20. In keeping with the spirit of accuracy of information professed by, among others, Eric Verlo, Magic Dave, and Gary of Evolvefish, I thought I should correct some of the false statements made at that meeting.
KRCC did provide public service announcements for Amy Goodman/Democracy Now at Shove Chapel. No psa was announced for the Townhall Forum for the simple reason that information was not provided to us within the two week in advance time frame required of everybody else (sorry Eric-no special treatment just because you want it). Someone in the group had also failed to work out the non-profit end of things, also a requirement.
Considering how low some of the blows aimed at KRCC have been, I found it surprising that Gary (evolvefish) could admit that some of his advertising dollars have been spent with Clear Channel owned businesses and nobody found this odd, nevermind shocking. Ah….the machine rolls on…..
Peace to you all.
Vicky, “in the spirit of accuracy,” please note that our PSA request was submitted January 17, four weeks before the event.
Also “in the spirit of accuracy,” the Pikes Peak Media Alliance is a non-profit. When KRCC then implied they needed us to be a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we submitted the PSA in the name of our cosponsor, the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission. And after that hurdle, for KRCC to air our PSA would have required a special favor apparently.
Vicky, before you introduce facts “in the spirit of accuracy” into the debate, please be sure you are not spreading disinformation. If you’re going to carry somebody else’s water, make sure it’s clean because it’s going to reflect on you.
I certainly appreciate your coming to the meeting as a private citizen to try to speak for the station. Now you are trying to suggest “low blows” had been aimed at KRCC. I’d be eager to hear what criticisms of Mario’s stonewalling you consider to have been too low.
I consider trying to malign someone for not being a KRCC member, fairly low. Likewise now you are insinuating that we asked for special treatment. When someone with the power of public personality, someone perhaps with access to authority and thus potential to influence established power, when someone like you propagates a falsehood in order to preserve your power, that’s low.
We organized a town hall forum, the college wouldn’t come, KRCC wouldn’t come, and KRCC didn’t even want to tell their listeners about it. We ask no special favors other than that KRCC respond to its community.
